this phone has good battery life? you kidding?? i have it and the battery was good in the beginning.... over time it goes down and you get less and less time off the charger. i hate it now. cant wait for my free upgrade to get a better phone. if you thought you want this... you may want to rethink the decision. get something else.

Great review! Thanks! I do find a few statements incorrect though. Perhaps that's because of the date of your review video and Verizon changed their policy and what they provide with your purchase of this phone since then. Mine did not come with a micro-sd card. If I didn't have one I would have had to buy it separately. I have had my Bionic for about 6 weeks now and love it! The only issues I've found are the HDMI makes the phone lag (slow), and text messaging freezes sometimes.

I have this thing, I'm incredibly happy with it but I still don't know why they dropped the ball SOOOO hard with the screen. There's no way to deny it, I see that redicilous shimmering effect whenever I look at it. I do like how bright and vibrant the screen is but that weird effect is overwhelming at times. Other than that, not too many gripes with this phone.

@MobileTechReview Hey Lisa, so I've been doing a little internet digging and looks like the Droid 4 is coming out December 4th, though its not been confirmed yet. Just wondering if you've heard anything about it because if its coming this soon, I might just get that. After watching your review of course
  • @user_svdarboc
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@MobileTechReview Ok one more question. I just checked out the map and I'm very close to being in full 4G LTE coverage, but mostly I'm in the extended 4G LTE area. So sometimes it will switch over the 3G according to the map legend. My question is, how does the speed compare when on 3G as opposed to 4G?
  • @user_svdarboc
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@MobileTechReview Why does it have to be so hard????? lol well thanks for your help! I'll go check them out now!
  • @user_weiverhcetelibom
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@cobradvs I wouldn't say the RAZR is an improved Bionic. They are different. Only saying one has a better signal strength. 4G LTE phones tend to have shorter battery life, so Droid 3 wins in the respect. But LTE phones get supper fast data speeds. It really depends on what you want. Check out our full reviews of all three phones on MobileTechReview.
  • @user_svdarboc
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@MobileTechReview Hmmm so far I'm not too impressed with the Bionic when compared to the RAZR. Is that generally the case? The RAZR is a slightly improved Bionic? So basically my only choice is the Droid 3 and RAZR. Which is better on battery life?
  • @user_weiverhcetelibom
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@cobradvs Yes, Verizon Wireless has a detailed map on their web site. The Bionic drains the battery very quickly in 4G LTE marginally covered areas. We are hoping that a software update will fix it, but there hasn't been one. If you have time, do check out our written review of the Droid RAZR on our site, as we discussed this in detail.
  • @user_svdarboc
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@MobileTechReview I don't really need a qwerty keyboards, its just what I'm used to. I would certainly substitute the keyboard for other features. I actually don't know anybody with a 4G LTE phone, but I've never had a problem with my phone getting a signal in my town so I would assume the 4G LTE coverage has to be decent. Is there some sort of coverage map I can look at to see?
  • @user_weiverhcetelibom
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@cobradvs Do you need a QWERTY keyboard? If yes, then that settles it. And how is Verizon 4G LTE signal in your area?
  • @user_svdarboc
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
Hi Lisa, great review! 1 quick question though. I'm looking to get a new phone this holiday. I have the Moto Droid 1 now and I like it, but it is pretty outdated by now. So I'm looking at these 3 phones, the Droid Bionic, Droid Razr, and Droid 3. Which would you recommend? The only reason I would want a droid 3 is because of the qwerty keyboard. What do you think?
  • @user_39suilea
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
the bionic's video chat is SOOO poor quality that I PROMISE, I prefer the droid 1's video messaging. It's that bad. I'm thinking of returning it. It's that bad. It says its a deadlbreaker.

The commercial they're posting now already scares me. They brag that you can get access to your home computer from this device. Isn't that a two way sword... if you can get access to your computer via a phone, I'm pretty sure someone else can eventually get access to it that way as well (hacking?).

  • @user_skcitSmurDcigaM
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@fightnight909 And yes you CAN take the battery out of an iPhone 4 very easily. You just take off the two little screws at the bottom and then lift the cover, and the battery is right there.... but i dont see why you would need to anyway, like who carries extra batteries with them anyway? why not just get a car charger? Or a battery case? The iPhones get software updates LONG after they are outdated. The iPhone 3GS, a nearly 3 year old device, just got the latest iOS software.
  • @user_skcitSmurDcigaM
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@fightnight909 Who cares if they both shoot at 1080p? An 8 MP phone is not equal to an 8 MP dSLR, the optics and senor are different. Same thing in this case, the iPhone has a back-side illuminated CMOS sensor with an f stop of f/2.2 which is AMAZING for a phone. It allows more light in to handle low light shots much better, the shutter speed is also very quick and allows you to take 2 pics in 1 second. Also, Androids have the habit of not being supported after a year or so
  • @user_skcitSmurDcigaM
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@kyuubiyura It's ultimately up to you. Don't let me or anyone else tell you what you should get. Go to the wireless store and try them both out and compare them. I'm personally an iPhone guy, but my friends have Android phones and they love them, I've had people switch from Android to iPhone and they're happy and there are people who switched to Android and are never coming back to iPhone as well. So compare both for yourself, let me know what you decide to get!
  • @user_skcitSmurDcigaM
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@kyuubiyura Well my sister has it; honestly the screen is pretty good but it uses a PENTILE display which basically means that its not too sharp of a screen. The text was kind of blurry for such a high end phone (not bad though) but if you are going to go for an Android, go for a Samsung Galaxy S II over the bionic because it's the same specs and better graphics processing, the build quality on the samsung isn't as nice as the Bionic but the screen is just AMAZING. Or you could go with 4S :)
  • @user_skcitSmurDcigaM
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@kyuubiyura 30 minutes? I don't know what you're doing with your phone because I get over a day of usage. Lisa herself has said that the iPhone 4S has better battery life. I have used to Bionic and the battery is just ok, iOS will always have better battery life because its not as intensive and taxing on the phone as an Android OS is, plus the fact that it has an LTE antenna, 1.2 ghz processor, bigger screen using more power. So no, I strongly disagree with you, the iPhone has better battery.
  • @user_skcitSmurDcigaM
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@fightnight909 Sorry but no. iPhone = overall more accessories, more support, better service, no fragmentation, future proof, gets latest updates, better camera, better video recording, better battery life, WAY WAY more apps, better games, higher res display... the list goes on and on, need I say more?
  • @user_weiverhcetelibom
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z

  • @user_weiverhcetelibom
    1970-01-01T00:00:00Z
@dentonbrowne I own a Bionic, and it is faster and quite stable except for the usual 3G to LTE handoffs. That seems to be a problem with every Verizon LTE phone that comes out, where it sometimes has trouble switching between the two and drops the data connection (toggling flight mode brings it back). If I were you, I'd wait a few more weeks and see how the Droid RAZR and Galaxy Nexus shape up. Since they're coming so soon, it's worth waiting to see which one is most enticing.

@MobileTechReview Hi i have a question. i have the driod charge and i kinda hate this phone, only reason i got this phone is because the only other 4g phone was the thunderbolt at the time and the screen was nice. so my question is, is the bionic worth trading my charge in for? i mean the performance on the charge is almost the same as my motorola driod which is now strictly a mp3 player/ for games lol. Lisa, Should I get this phone or should I get the iPhone 4S? Given the choice, anyway. The only reason I am asking is because I am a big iPhone fan. =[ Which sucks, because I am not a fan of Apple. ._. So I was wondering which of the two you would prefer, considering the 4S really is much better than 4. Twice as good, even. The problem being that it's 3G while this one is 4G LTE. Ah, such a hard choice.. Hope you reply. =]

@NORCALiSLiM WOW YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT because at least there is always new Android hardware coming out unlike Apple who makes you wait almost two years before they come out with new hardware [EPIC FAIL] My Android device works just fine thank you very much and I have had it since March and I have already had at least 7 software updates so your information is way off so the next time you try to pass judgment go out and use an Android device and for more then a few minutes.

I just bought one last Friday. I have had some growing pains but this is an awesome phone! 4GLTE speeds are awesome but it drains ur battery, just FYI. Still playing with it.
