How is the BlackBerry serving you? From what I can tell, that model supports 3G HSPA which was called 4G by AT&T. AT&T 3G has been dead for over a year now...

I really pin the blame on consumers for killing off nokia, sony ericsson and the likes. Them and their fucking smartphones, they should be outcasted by us cellphone users for being moronic brainwashed idiots.

Thank you Paul for this nostalgia ❤️

We are in India quite lucky as we still do get 2g and 3g networks. We are very possessive about retro tech too. I am planning to get a V3i from a good seller . Hope to detox from today's boring candybars

The cell phone carriers have been discontinuing older types of cell phone networks to free up the frequencies for use on the newer cell phone networks. I ran into this problem because I know a totally blind person. I would find a specialized cell phone for a blind person I know only to have the cell phone carrier discontinue the cell phone network that the phone used. I also ran into this with the car I owned. My 2011 BMW car had a feature called BMW assist that stopped working when an older 2G network was shutdown. It sure seems like Cell Phone carriers want to obsolete old networks to force people to buy new cell phones that work on the newer networks.

I have several Motorola V3XXs and they are great phones! Mine worked so well on AT&T 3G, it got service everywhere! The day AT&T shut off 3G service in my area was very sad. Luckily I still have t-mobile 2G in my area so I just use my V3XX with that. Also that phone is in great shape! Especially for one that has been used for over 10 years!

What a trip down memory lane. My first cell phone was a Cingular, then I too got a Razor. I cooked the first one while plowing a field, got another and kept it for years. I loved it.
I finally broke down and bought a smart phone. But I miss the Razor.
Paul are you in a VFD? They all carry pagers as well.

When I mention that my first cell phone was a bag phone I get laughs. It was great! No battery (DC power from car) rubber duck antenna and 3 full watts of RF output. I could hit the towers from way out! Once analog signals were dropped in favor of digital, goodbye bag phone. Oh, well. Time and progress waits for no man. Great diversion video. I enjoy side trips down memory lane. Have any Heathkit radios to talk about? Or Graymark? Later

That's so dumb they think 3G is obsolete. It's still good for making calls and it's reliable and it's pretty cheap! Making it affordable for a lot of people ecspecially if you have a budget. Their probably trying to push people into buying 5G phones which is so dumb because we have the right to make our decisions and what fits best for us.

2.5G or GPRS is expected to be un service in Europe unitl 2028 at least. It is used extensively in railway signalling on high speed trains (ERTMS) not too sure about 3G or LTE as 4G was never uniformly deployed (fallback to 3G or GPRS) . However, recent developments in functional programming and Erlang programming language could replace GPRS sooner

I kept my flip phone until 2018, when I was given a hand me down iPhone 5. It felt so modern... and now it's getting shut down too! Not sure what I'll end up with once I finally have to upgrade, but I doubt it'll be another iPhone. Being able to send messages quickly and from anywhere is pretty nice.

    Hey Paul! NO!!!
Move on my friend. We've all had to. LOL!!!
Verizon announced 3 years ago that they were ending support for 3G here, but they keep postponing it and pushing the date farther out! The latest from them is the end of 2022.
Move on into the future my friend. We've all had to. LOL!!!

As a fellow V3xx owner I feel your pain. Mine is a 2006 model and has been absolutely perfect. And like you, was using a Star Tac on 2G before. In Australia 3G gets switched off next year. Not a fan of forced obsolescence!

Yeah, I agree with your assessment of the Motorola phones, I didn't have a razor, just a flip one. My first was a Nokia, which wasn't bad, but when 2G left us, I got a Motorola. I did that because the company I worked for had them and they got great service. They are AT&T, which is all we can get good reception on, Verizon just doesn't work in our area. So when they sent out the message that they were ending 3G, I picked up a new one, which will handle 4G. What a waste of money and good product, like you said, oh well, we'll just have to deal with it, whether we like it or not. Thanks for sharing, you and Model T have a great Sunday and week ahead.

My first cell was a Motorola "Brick" (Spokane/ Airtouch) in about ?94? Then a "flip" for several years. I STILL HAVE THE SAME PHONE NUMBER I just abandoned an Lg flip (2/3G) for a Kirocera Dura xv extreme, (4g) and it is rugged/ waterproof but the software seems buggy and not very well organized. I don't like having to deal with the settings. It has ONE HELL of a speakerphone, and I'm am pretty deaf, now. Too many Navy jets, big bore pistols, hot rods, and rock and roll

Same thing happened to me and ATT sent a 4G without asking for it (no charge). I still use a flip phone as I don't want a large phone bill and a laptop serves me better than a smart phone. I do what serves me and don't care if people chuckle when they see a flip phone. Good seeing you on a Saturday morning video!
