  the Chinese are badge snobs and the Apple is a symbol of success when it comes to phones. So those who cannot afford an iPhone would resort to ones that look like it to pretend they could afford one rather than being original and use something different.
  
  This is also the reason why Chinese has so many so many fake stuff. However instead of making cheap fakes like they used to companies now resort to mimicking. Hence the strong resemblance of iPhones on pretty much every budget Chinese phones you see.

  The entire review clearly seem to have been made on some presumptions and hence quite obviously do not paint the full picture. A new product deserves a unbiased review which Android Authority does not seem to be quite competent at providing. It's good to see diverse range of products that suit various tastes. This one might have been aimed at Android users who dislike the stock Android UI. To understand more about the OS I rang up the local Vivo rep in India who said all Google Apps runs without hitch and this company currently has a larger market share than all the rest of the Chinese companies.

  It doesn't matter how great the hardware is and how cheap they could sell it, if the software and Android integration or the network coverage is not up to standard, they will be a waste of time for most users.
  I'm not necessarily talking about this phone, but these types of phones in general.
  You can see when both aspects are taken care of, a great phone can result - just look at Huawei and its Nexus 6P.
